“We Have Something to Say” Report Release

The “We Have Something to Say” report release and Listening Circle at the Chelsea Hotel on May 10th, 2016 gathered children and youth with disabilities across Ontario to speak to key stakeholders on the issues that matter to them. It was a powerful event, as the Youth Amplifiers on the project, Holly and Sammy, as well as one of the Youth Advisory participants, Rana, took to the panel and outlined key concerns and policy recommendations highlighted in the report.

The Listening Circle, which happened in the absence of media, heard over a dozen young people from across Ontario speak about their personal experiences living with disabilities while navigating a system that disabled them. As they concluded, policies should not be about “fixing” the disability but rather fixing everything around it — the culture, the services, and the supports.

The report, released by the Office of the Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth, was the conclusion of a 2-year project discussing everyday barriers for youth and children living with disabilities across Ontario. And Also Too had the honour and privilege of using these powerful voices to capture the essence of the report through design.
